ganked from [livejournal.com profile] dayo:

Here is how it works. Copy this list. Leave in the bands you've seen perform live. Delete the ones you haven't and add new ones that you have seen until you reach 25. An asterisk means the previous person had it on their list. Two asterisks means the last two people who did this before you had that band on their list.

1. Dan Fogelberg
2. Rush (x)
3. Pink Floyd
4. Psychic TV
5. Cake
6. Brave Combo
7. Webb Wilder
8. Eurythmics
9. Tori Amos
10. The Orb
11. Ani DiFranco
12. Negativland
13. Dave Matthews Band (x)
14. They Might Be Giants
15. Erasure
16. Sarah McLachlan
17. Damien Rice (x)
18. Rufus Wainright (x)
19. Erasure*
20. Soul Coughing
21. The Iguanas (x)
22. The Jackofficers (aka half of the Butthole Surfers)
23. Happy Family
24. Amy Denio
25. Front 242**

That was a lot of work. The bands I chose to mark with (x) I would never have gone to see if it weren't for other people, mostly my wife. If you include opening acts and no-names I find it a hard stretch to think I've seen more than 50 bands live, ever, so it was very hard to come up with this list.

What a bizarre mix of bands :)

Hey Sterno, curious what you think of this screed:

http://www.disinfo.com/site/displayarticle20254.html

My favorite line: Thank you, Congress, for showing us this superior mode of despotic governance. Thank you, Democrats, for confirming that you are a pack of power-mongering fascists every bit the equal of our Republican nazis.

And you know, if Hillary gets elected, nothing will change except the war in Iraq. And maybe not even that.

Gabriel Ross was born at 12:17 6 lbs 7 oz. In NICU for slight breathing difficulty. Was nice and pink and LOUD :)

Steph is in recovery with our Doula. Sounds like her uterus did have some additional issues but haven't had a chance to talk with doc for details.

Hey Sterno:

Curious what you think of that.

I know we've had our differences over what Crichton is up to.

I'm skeptical of some of his claims (I'd swear I've heard the DDT claim before, but I'm skeptical of the claim too), but the overall tone rings pretty true to me.

So VA went blue.

Theoretically.

Why do I have this horrible feeling that Lieberman is going to switch sides next week? Or in January?

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: Philadelphia

Your accent is as Philadelphian as a cheesesteak! If you're not from Philadelphia, then you're from someplace near there like south Jersey, Baltimore, or Wilmington. if you've ever journeyed to some far off place where people don't know that Philly has an accent, someone may have thought you talked a little weird even though they didn't have a clue what accent it was they heard.

The Northeast
The South
The Inland North

What crap. I do not have a city flattened accent, and you can't tell whether I do or not from a bunch of questions. :)

Was listening to Chicago Public Radio on the way in today. A woman is telling her story of going back to college, something a few people around here might relate to.

I had to laugh out loud at the following:

"My husband convinced me to call the local college. When a very nice person answered the phone, I said 'Hello, I'm an adult' and hung up."

Hunting without a license?

What happened to home/self defense? Yeah, maybe it's only 3 ft, but it came into her house first.

I dunno, seems to me that if this had been a dog that invaded her home to attack her dog, they wouldn't have just let it go (assuming it survived the gunshots).

This is really cool.

Name the bands you see. I'm mostly creating this so I can have someplace to put the ones I've found and a handful other people have spotted, but you can spot them too.

Here are the ones so far that I have: )

So the story behind this picture is actually pretty long.

Back in 1999, I had to go to Salt Lake City for work. A big customer had a system in a data center there that was having lots of trouble. There were two SSE's so they could take turns babysitting the machine, but then one quit. So they called out for help, since one guy was gonna get eaten alive doing all that by himself (plus his regular job).

As I tend to do when I'm out of town for business, I wandered around town in my downtime and found an interesting mall (can't remember the name, some native there might be able to tell you) that had a realllly cool stationery shop. They had Griffin & Sabine post cards/writing materials, and since Steph and I were into Nick Bantock's work at the time I got that, to send silly romantic notes back home (yeah, I know it seems out of character to me too). I also got a couple sheets of these really nifty pressed flowers in stickers, to put on the postcards.

As it turns out, I only used one sheet. And the other has been kicking around in my "stuff to keep but scrambled around somewhere" piles ever since.

Fast forward to this weekend, when I took some time to start cleaning up one of those piles. I found the stickers, and knew Kevin would love them--he's all about flowers, and he likes to make put lots of stickers on his artwork (most commonly lately are the snowflake stickers, of which you can see a couple). So I gave him the sheet of stickers assuming they'd get stuck on randomly the way the snowflakes do.

Boy was I wrong :-). He's been making more complex drawings lately (see also train drawing that is all his for a change in the flickr stream--previous ones I have either drawn the train, or at least the wheels & windows), and as you see, he put the flowers all together and made one of them into a butterfly.

B.S.E.G. ensues :-))

1. Go to this site: http://www.musicoutfitters.com/
2. In the search box in the upper right hand corner, enter the year you graduated from high school.
3. The first item returned should be the top 100 songs from that year. Cut and paste them into your journal.
4. Bold the ones you like, underline your favorite, and strike through the songs you loathe. (and italic ones you don't think you ever heard, or just can't remember)

does this work? )
